Merlot is the most widely planted grape in British Columbia, Canada. In many parts of the world, Merlot is known for its soft tannins and rich, lush texture. However, due to the unique climate in BC, the structure of the grape is different, producing wines with higher tannins and more structure than in other regions. BC Merlot typically has a medium to full body, medium to high tannins, and flavors of black cherry, black plum, chocolate, and floral violet notes. Like in many other parts of the world, it is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
