Malbec

discover the varietal

Malbec is a thin-skinned, purple grape that originates from France. Today it can be found in many winemaking regions across the world but has become most notably grown in Argentina. Malbec produces an inky and dark red wine with rich flavors of black cherry, raspberry, blackberry or blueberry depending on where they are grown! Expect to find leathery smells as well as spice and herbs which add complexity to these wines when drinking them. They typically have medium ripe tannins with rich acidity making for full bodied tastes that will leave you smoky at the end.

Malbec was a rather difficult grape to cultivate, but found its way into Canada. Nowadays Malbec is also grown in Ontario and British Columbia with approximately 100 thousand acres of the plant planted worldwide.
